Cal lost the Big Game today against Stanfurd...
this season has been a nightmare for anyone who cares about the Cal Golden Bears football team. we have lost 7th straight year, and this year marks my 5th straight year here as a Cal student to witness the brutal loss. However, this Big Game really made me proud of our football team. no matter what people say about how bad our football team is and all, i've really earned a respect for the team and our school. i read an interesting article yesterday on the Daily Cal. it was a guest colum by our starting middle linebacker, Scott Fujita. it's funny because I've know this guy since 6th grade, we were best friends in juior high school. he hasn't changed a bit since then. he has always been very competitve and very emotional. maybe that's why we were close.
eric and i just finished watching the game. although this Big Game has lived up to another Big Game status with all the drama and heart that was displayed on the field, it was heart breaking to see our team go down again. at the end of the game, they showed The Axe and all the Stanfurd players touching it... then it reminded me of what Scott wrote, "i don't know what it feels like to bring the Axe back home... i don't even know what it looks like, i've never seen it up close". remembering that quote made me really sad, bcause i know exactly what he was talking about. 5 years at Cal, i've never witnessed our team beat the hated Stanurd, rather i've had to taste the bitterness once again. i'm tempted to say, "oh, i don't care anymore", but i do.
it's tough being on this side of the game. people whose never participated in competitive atheletics don't understand...
i remember my high school football days. we were really bad. my sophomore year we were 7-3. my juinior year we finished 5-5. my senior year, however, we made an amazing turn around and went all the way to win the Southern Section CIF Championship, with a record of 13-1. (funny thing is that the one loss was from the high school that my freind Scott went to) .if i had to choose one thing that i've learned in my days as a high school athelete is to never give up hope, and i don't wanna give up hope with Cal either. someday we will beat Stanfurd and win the whole Pac-10. someday. and on that day i will be the one cheering the loudest. you will see.
i know that this blog is really long and if you've read this far you probably know what i'm feeling right now in one way or another... then leave your comments here. i would love to read what you have to say.
i know i've said somethings about our football team which showed that i don't really care, but i know that i'll be cheering for Cal football as long as i live.
remember, that day will come, and to all those that don't belive... i'll show you the Axe once i get my hand on it.
