march madness. i don't think those two words do justice to what it truly is. it's true insanity x 1000 + teary eyes * (all the teams that lost) * (number of players in each team) + celebration in the lockers * (all the 12 seeded teams that pulled an upset) + anxiety attack * [(number of fans) + (number of ppl picked you in their poll)] = well, for lack of better word, MADNESS. so in conclusion, i guess it is truly madness!

march madness is also a lot of fun for college basketball fans of all ages, and i think it is one of the few events where even ladies get in the action (not referring to the NCAAW tournament). because march madness brings family against family, sibling against sibling, and neighbors against neighbors before our very eyes.

i remember when i was in high school, all the male teachers would check out those precious T.V.s, which were bought for "educational purposes only", and use it to educate us that the world is more than geometrical proofs and well-written essays ( i learned that lesson too well... hehe). we would be watching games in the middle of the class with a big diagram of the NCAA tournament bracket on the chalk board.

few years back, i made the cardinal mistake of putting "doing the dishes until end of the semester" on the line. i ended up getting so good at doing the dishes, i could have put that as an item in my "skills and interests" section of my resume. i hated my room mate for luring me into this sour deal, but i hated myself the most for picking Duke to go all the way. ( thus, i'm not picking Duke this year no matter how good they seem. i still haven't forgiven them for all those hours that my hands and fingers had to be in dish washing soap)

well, this year there are no dishes or diners on the line for me, but for all the Cal basketball fans, we are playing for pride. this is the second time we have been invited to the Big Dance, and the for the first time in a long time ( i think the last time we went past the first round, i was still getting picked up from school by my daddy ) we have gone past the first round.

victim number 1 : the ivy league boys from university of pennsylvania (not penn state... but i think some those penn boys wish they had skills of the "other" school).

i had a strange visitor about a week ago. i will not mention his name because i think he will hate me for it, but his name rhymes with Poses Han whose sister's name rhymes with Bebecca Han (both names are from the Bible). (hello poses and bebecca!) it wasn't my first ever meeting with him, but this was a very strange meeting indeed because that night, i had given him and the Quakers like him a glimpse of hope that Quakers are searching for tonight. it was a fierce battle fought on the home court of Cal, the hass pavillion. brian weathers was hot with 79 points, but it was too much for the quakers' number 00 who scored 69 points along with one other white guy who put up around 30 points. the 6 point lead late in the game was too much to overcome by the Golden Bears. the final score... i don't even remember... haha. it was a match up between Cal vs. Penn on Play Station 2 game called NCAA 2001 or something like that. it's a really cheesy game, except for the fact that there is litterally the entire college basketball team from A to Z.

i remember thinking back to that night when i had let the whole campus of Berkeley down by allowing an ivy league chap to humiliate me in my own house. i was a failure. i had no hope of redeeming my alumnus and my broken heart... until last sunday when the NCAA tournament bracket came out. i rushed to the computer and typed E-S-P-N-dot-C-O-M. i couldn't believe my eyes... the first round match up: California vs. Pennsylvania.

well, all of you readers know by now, we are standing as victors tonight over those Quakers, and i can live my head up once again and move on with my life knowing that i'm not a failure after all. well... at least for now. until sunday, when we face yet another foe: Pitt.

so Cal fans, we are better than what those guys behind ESPN booth tells us. have hope! we will not give up! we will not go quietly! we will make out mark before lights go out in Hass Pavillion.

[ok, so i took this alittle too far, and i know that this story sucks! but let me just enjoy the sweet smell of success. you better hold me back, though, when we beat Pitt and get into sweet 16 baby! haha...]
