well i got a few interested ppl for the idea of having some kind of book-club in order for us to encourage one another in not only reading habits but also the habit of encouraging one another. i haven't thought too much about what we should read but here are few suggestions.
On challenging my view of God and being devotional: Philip Yancey’s Soul Survivors
On leadership and spiritual formation: Leadership Is a Work of Heart by Reggie McNeil
I also have a lot of interest in Islam (for obvious reasons) and have a lot of books on that topic that i'm planning to read. if you are interested in those let me know.
i also want to read some secular books so that we chrisitians are read in broader topics. you know so that we don't read ourselves to death in this x-tian bubble. we need to know what the world in reading. i think one book from a recent best seller and one classic that have stood the test of time.
i think reading one book a month is good. probably x-tian and secular every other month.
if you have any suggestions feel free to let me know.
i think one big thing is tho (as martin reminded me) is that we DO what it says. and i know that martin just doesn't mean DO in a sense legallistic doing but allowing what we read to TRANSFORM both our MINDS and our HEARTS so that our LIVES will show it. (obviously doesn't apply to some of the secular books...)
so anyways. this still is a grand plan that needs to be done. put into action. I think i want to start in for November... so let me know. there are plenty of space but i think it would be best to keep it smaller rather than bigger.
so who's in?
